UNOC 3 Highlights: Legal Tools and Collective Action for Ocean Protection

The Green Rights Coalition had the honor of participating in the third edition of UNOC in Nice.

A moment of collective mobilization in support of a better protection of our oceans. We had the pleasure of organizing a conference entitled “Protecting the Ocean: mobilizing human rights and environmental rights,” featuring:

🔹 Yann Aguila (President of the Green Rights Coalition)

🔹 Marine Calmet (President of Wild Legal)

🔹 Astrid Puentes Riaño (UN Special Rapporteur on the right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment)

🔹 Michel Prieur (President of the Centre International de Droit Comparé de l’Environnement (CIDCE)) The conference was expertly moderated by Elissa Phillips (Director of Incredible Oceans).

The discussions shed light on the progress and challenges of building a more ambitious legal framework to protect the Ocean through human rights and environmental rights. We also presented the Environmental Rights Fresk, an educational and collaborative tool we have been developing over the past two years. The very positive feedback confirms the growing interest in innovative approaches to raising awareness of environmental law. Another highlight: the CleanWalk organized with Nice Plogging. A big thank you to our team of volunteers, and a special thanks to Marin Lardeau.

We also warmly thank our trusted partners: The Ocean Rights Coalition (UK), Earth Law Center, Incredible Oceans, and the Centre International de Droit Comparé de l’Environnement (CIDCE). Our planet. Our rights.
