Green Diplomacy: Birth of a new Blog

The Green Diplomacy Blog is written by jurists for diplomats to feed ongoing discussions and negotiations with concrete and precise legal approaches and propositions.

Since the adoption of the 2022 Declaration and following the recognition of the right to a healthy environment by the UN General Assembly in July 2022, we believe that the time for a change has come. That is the reason why we decided to broaden the Blog’s scope to the analysis of international environmental law and governance generally speaking, in a step forward.

Therefore, the Green Diplomacy Blog is still written “by jurists for diplomats”, aiming to feed ongoing discussions and negotiations with concrete and precise legal approaches and propositions. It will continue to give a voice to eminent personalities. We are honored to count with the support of renown international environmental law professionals, as reflected in the composition of the Advisory Board.

The target audience of the Blog is primarily composed of green diplomacy actors: diplomats, but also other relevant stakeholders such as NGOs, jurists, business representatives, and state actors. More than ever, the new Blog will be a forum for diplomatic action for renowned jurists and practitioners to provide stakeholders with actionable legal proposals.

We hope that this new Blog will offer tangible proposals for the needful advancement of international environmental. Indeed, it is our aspiration that the Blog is of service for and brings inspiration to the work of diplomats to facilitate future negotiations.

It is our responsibility to strengthen international environmental law and adapt it to the challenges or our time, whether it is global warming or the decline of biodiversity. I am confident the new Blog will be successful in this endeavor.
